David A. Bainbridge was born in 1948 in Schnectady, New York. He grew up in the west, living as a child in Colorado, Washington, Oregon and California. He received a B.A. in Earth Sciences from the University of California, San Diego (1970) and an M.S. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis (1973).
